On the 10th of October we successfully finished our shoot for our music video.
Morning
We started filming at 11am in the barn. We decided that we would do individual shots first, starting with the drums as it took the longest to set up. By doing the shots of the band members separate, this enabled us more variation for editing as we were using different camera angles etc.
Then we did a band shot a couple of times through with hand held and then with a tripod. Then we used the props around us to create different levels.
Afternoon
We carried on doing more band shots with different variations then decided to have a change of location.
We then went to a corn field as we were lucky with the weather as it was sunny all day. We had some more shots of the lead singer. We used the advantage of having all the band there and took some pictures, which we could use to show what the location was like.
We finished at 4.30pm

UNIT G325: 1A ) : SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
UNIT G325: 1A ) : SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
Make detailed notes on the skills you had at the end of the AS year – use all the technical vocabulary that you can:
With this piece of equipment I am able to record but change the effect to suit the mood of the piece, e.g. if filming at night putting it on night vision can create the right effect.
Edit to enhance the non digetic and non digetic. So putting a voiceover on the footage or
Keeping the original sound but just emphasising specific moments
In final cut express I have learnt how to capture the footage, in this I found out that you can play back your footage using the 'space bar' for play. Also using the 'J', 'K', 'L' for fast forwarding etc. This is useful as you have two screens of footage, which makes editing simple. I also learnt how to use the time bar at the bottom measured in seconds, this for when putting in audio tracks and so you can see how long a frame is at a time. Organising work is made simple as just clicking on a drop down menu and creating a bin makes work more organized. This makes you clips easy to get to, especially if you label them like '01' instead on '1' so they go in order.
I used a digital camera to capture stills of the project to help pre production. In this I can change the setting to create the right atmosphere, e.g. balck and white and sepia. The pros about the software and the hardware is that It was advanced so it help us go further with our projects however as it was all new it took a while to get to grips with it all, especially final cut express.
I wasn’t as creative when using the software but again that was partly due to the new software. But in the actual filming I think was creative in contributing to what shots we used and our location. I used mainly the Internet to watch films, which is a very useful resource however I would improve this, by using books or magazines because even though the internet is useful a lot of it can be incorrect. My blog was organised and I printed of hard copies as well which helped organise my folder, however when I went to revisit my AS blog my labels weren’t always correct which made me lose time. I didn’t use my outube account to its full purpose as I only watched clips but never uploaded mine. I think if I uploaded them it would help me get constructive feed back.
In editing I organised it by keeping it tidy by the bins in Final Cut Express and also keeping a back up on a memory stick. However we should had more time in editing outside of class.
The techniques we used were fades, ellipse, voiceover, pan shots, cut of black in white to a piece of music, black and white effect.
For my evaluation I felt went well however I would of added more visual effects with my voice over.
Its not possible to create a entire original media text as you are always getting idea from the environment around you which is obviously influenced from the media. Plus looking at films etc you get ideas from there also.We just followed the conventions of a typical thriller so that the audience could easily identify what type of genre it was.

Planning Music video -Questionnaire
Richard created a electronic questionnaire which we have been sending a link to our target audience being 16 - 24 and we are currently waiting for more of a response to get reasonable feed back which will influence our video.

Planning Music Video - Shooting schedule
This Schedule that Richard put together will give us an idea of time and how long it should take us to film, and what to do in those certain hours. The actual date of filming is not a hundred percent at this precise time but it should hopefully be filmed in the coming weeks.
I added a bit to schedule in Italics
Time Job
11:00 Leave for Wells-Next-To-The-Sea, via Fakenham
12:00 Band Set up their Equipment with help, while we film connor signing and walking
13:00 Film The Band Playing
we may use different areas of the woods to give variety to the video, plus it will enable us more to edit with
14:00 Film The Band Playing
15:00 Film The Band Playing
16:00 Move to a different location, while we film connor walking
more possibly to the beach or the dunes
17:00 Filming the band as the sun is setting we'd have to get this in at the right moment, as it will add to the climax of the song.
18:00 Film The Band Playing
19:00 Film The Band Playing
20:00 Pack up equipment

Planning Music Video - Plot
"And the winner is..." Band Members.
Connor - Lead Vocalist
Tom - Bass
Harry - Guitarist
Jack - Drums
Pete - Guitarists
In the video we have decided it will performance based. The reason we have decided this is because as the band is new and this is their first video we wanted the audience to get a feel of what the band is like. This video is essential as we want it to be upbeat and energetic, so it creates the right atmosphere that the band want to portray.
By having a variety of slow motion shots (which we will do in the edit) and closes up to medium shots, this will create rememberable image of the band. To keep it energetic we thought of doing many quick edits. However in doing this we thought it may get confusing so this why we decided to add in the slow motion aspect to slow it down in parts.
We did consider doing a narrative based video but the band felt that they weren't comfortable in doing that for there first video and thought that they would do a narrative based in video in the future. Also we struggled to find a good narrative to the song that would convey the right image.

Planning Music Video - Location
With not being allowed to film at the St Georges church, due it being closed. So we are in a bit of a hurray to find a location to film the video, we then had a group idea of filming in a wood, we got this idea from the video by Paramore - Decode but with a mixture of Futures - The Boy Who Cried Wolf.
On the Thursday 16th we are driving to a local wood, Bawdeswell heath, to see if it is plausible to use the location to film at. We are also thinking of the woods at Wells-Next-To-The-Sea.
